Middletown Country Club

Middletown is a compact 80 acres of challenging golf, with rolling hills and large specimen trees that have watched many golfers travel its fairways over time. It has retained its old time feel with tees and greens in close proximity, allowing golfers to walk the course if they choose.

Herr drops Pa. Jr. in playoff

Written by Bob Oliver on .

New Hope's Zachary Herr came within a whisker of winning the 62nd

Pennsylvania Junior Golf Championship.

Herr, the opening round leader, and Fox Hill Country Club's Brandon

Matthews finished regulation 36 holes knotted at 136. Herr had opened

with a 67 and added a 69, while Matthews posted a 71 and 65 over the

Hershey Country Club. The two players finished seven shots better than

anyone else in the field.

The two trudged back to the 18th hole to begin their playoff. Both

ripped drives down the fairway. Herr's approach nestled to within 15

feet of the flagstick, while Matthews stroked his about 16 feet away.

Matthews won the putting contest by sinking his birdie putt as Herr's

attempt was just off the mark.

Ironically also dropped the 2009 event in a playoff.

Yardley's Reilly Erhardt, the defending champion, tied for sixth at 144

after rounds of 71 and 73 while club mate Vinay Ramesh was 36th after

an 80-73-153 effort....

At Northampton Valley Country Club, defending men's club champion Duane

Walker will face a stern test in his effort to retain his crown. Also

in the championship flight are Jeff Hilton, Keith Smedley, Matt Kothe,

Buff Radick, Mike Burns, Paul Unis, Jonathan Radick, Steve Heckman, Tim

Whartenby, Blake Campbell and J.J. Johnson.

At Makefield Highlands, Ann Provenzano made the 4th of July a memorable

holiday with an ace on the par-3, 116-yard 17th hole.
